Abstract

Cardiovascular reactivity to various vasopressor agents and alteration in the renin angiotensin system has been evaluated in the streptozotocin induced diabetic rat. The results show that there is increased responsiveness to angiotensin with alteration in the renin angiotensin system which is reflected in decreased renin stores, decreased plasma renin activity and decreased hog renin responses. When renal arteries of the diabetic animals were bilaterally clamped they developed hypertension faster as compared to controls. Various factors may contribute to the development of early hypertension in these diabetic rats.
