Abstract

It is shown that the substitution of Fe by nonmagnetic atoms Al, Si, Ru or Cu in the ferromagnetic compound CeFe2 leads to the occurence of a double transition behaviour. The magnetic phase diagram is seen to be independent of the nature of the atoms substituted. 57Fe Mossbauer studies indicate that the loss in ferromagnetism below the second transition is associated with reorientation of Fe moments into a spin glass like state.
