Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) contains tiny nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communications capabilities. Network's objective is to collect information from the area where they are deployed and report to the base-station intended for further processing or uses. These networks can be utilized for many applications. Sensor nodes are functioned by batteries affixed to them. It is unfeasible to charge or replace the battery in some applications. For that reason, optimal utilization of node's energy is a most important issue in the network. Clustering is a powerful technique for utilizing their energy best possible and lengthen the lifespan of network. Several soft computing based solutions have been gained a great success for implementing the clustering algorithms in WSNs. In this paper we present a literature survey of soft computing based clustering for enhancing lifespan of WSNs. We also remark the open research concerns and intend to spark progress in this field.
