Abstract
The stannides ScTSn (T = Ni, Pd, Pt) were synthesized from the elements by arc-melting. Single crystals of ScNiSn and ScPdSn were grown from a tin flux. The three compounds were investigated by X-ray powder and single-crystal diffraction: TiNiSi type, Pnma, Z = 4, a = 663.7(2), b = 435.6(1), c = 748.8(2) pm, wR2 = 0 0854, 429 F2 values, 20 variables for ScNiSn; HfRhSn type, P‾62c, a = 747.5(2), c = 710.8(2) pm, wR2 = 0.0508, 537 F2 values, 18 variables for ScPdSn; and a = 739.2(2), c = 727.4(2) pm for ScPtSn. The three stannides contain single scandium and tin sites which have been structurally characterized by 45Sc solid state NMR and 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopies.
