Abstract

Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) technique has been used to prepare leucine-based block copolymer nano-objects. A side-chain leucine appending macromolecular chain transfer agent (macroCTA) has been employed for reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) mediated dispersion polymerization of benzyl methacrylate (BzMA) in methanol at 65 °C. 1H NMR spectroscopy reveals near quantitative monomer conversions (≥90%) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) indicated well-defined block copolymer formation. Morphological evolution has been observed from spherical micelle to fibre to vesicle with increase of the length of the solvophobic block keeping the stabilizer block length and monomer solid content constant.
