Abstract

In this paper, an analytical method is described to compute the uplift capacity of oblique loaded horizontal strip anchors under both static and seismic conditions. The pseudo-static approach is used with the limit equilibrium method to obtain the net seismic uplift capacity factor for unit weight component (Fyd). Soil resistance, to uplift movement of anchor, on the assumed planar failure surface is obtained by using Kötter's equation. The significance of input parameters, in estimation of Fgd, like load inclination, soil friction angle, embedment ratio, seismic acceleration coefficients both in horizontal and vertical direction are discussed. It is noticed that the ultimate seismic load significantly affected by the inclination of load. The seismic uplift capacity of oblique loaded horizontal strip anchor decreases with increase in seismic acceleration coefficients whereas, increases with increase in soil friction angle and embedment ratio. Inclination of load shows the significant effect on the uplift capacity. The results obtained in the present analysis are compared with the available results and found in good agreement.
