Abstract
The precipitation of titania from supersaturated solid solutions of Ti in alumina has been analysed by electron diffraction and lattice imaging. A non-equilibrium phase, hitherto reported only after high-pressure deformation, has been identified. The orientation relationship between precipitate and matrix and the precipitate morphology may be understood by a detailed comparison of the two structures and the transformation strains.
