Abstract
In 1975, Stephen Hawking published one of the most influential papers in theoretical physics in the last forty-five years. It was on black holes and quantum mechanics. He discussed the scattering of elementary particles obeying the laws of quantum mechanics, off a classical black hole that is being formed as a result of gravitational collapse.
