Abstract

Ring affair: Self-assembled “double saddle”-type trinuclear complexes have been synthesized using selected cis- protected palladium(II) components and a slightly divergent “E-shaped” non-chelating tridentate ligand. The complexes, crafted with π surfaces at the strategically located cis-protecting sites, are self-assembled in a circular geometry to form an octadecanuclear molecular ring that further interacts with six neighboring rings, resembling the traditional Indian art form rangoli.
