Abstract

The cover feature shows the supramolecular polymerization and copolymerization of two distinct π-systems, oligo(p-phenylenevinylene) (OPV) donors (shown in orange) and perylene bisimide (PBI) acceptors (shown in red). The donors form random assemblies because of interference of the pyridine lone pair with the amide H atom, whereas the acceptors form short fibrous aggregates through carboxylic acid dimerization. Interestingly, a 1:2 donor/acceptor mixture results in organized copolymerization because of the preferred carboxylic acid/pyridine H-bond interaction, thus demonstrating the role of H-bond intervention in directed supramolecular copolymerization.
