Abstract
Presentation Description : World Health Organization (WHO) Global Action Plan (GAP) 2014--19 has a goal of reducing the problem of blindness and ensuring access to comprehensive eye care and providing universal eye health coverage (UEHC). One of the approach described is Primary Eye Care approach via Vision Centre (VC). The LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) has developed a pyramidal model of eye care to sustainably deliver high quality services. At the top of the pyramidal model, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) provides the highest level of care and serves a population of 50 million people. This is followed by Tertiary Centres (TC) that serve populations of 5 million, Secondary Centres (SC) that serve 500,000, Vision Centres (VC) for 50,000 and Vision Health Guardians (VHG) for 5,000. Over 50% of services in the network is provided free of cost, irrespective of the complexity and severity of disease. This presentation will highlight the impact created by LVPEI Eye Health Pyramid at each level, including at VC. It will highlight how VC approach is being utilized to provide UEHC. It will highlight how technology at the VC level is being utilized to bride the rural-urban gap as well as acheiving thr goal of UEHC. Overall impact of the Eye Health Pyramid in areas of Education, Research, Community Eye Health, Vision Rehabilitation, Eye Banking and its role in influencing Policies would be highlighted.
