Abstract

We herein present a transition metal free protocol for the dimerization of terminal aryl alkynes to prepare enyne derivatives using potassium tert-butoxide in the presence of catalytic amount of bipyridine. The reaction is compatible with a wide range of substrates resulting in high to moderate yields of the corresponding head-to-head dimers with E-selectivity.
