Abstract

A stilbene scintillation spectrometer has been used to study the neutrons inelastically scattered by iron and aluminium for an incident monoenergetic beam of 15 MeV neutrons. Using good geometry counts were taken with and without the scatterer in position and the results were analysed by a ratio method. For iron, levels have been obtained at 7.6, 5.8, 4.5 and 1.9 MeV. For aluminium, levels have been obtained at 8.1, 5.8, 4.0 and 3.0 MeV. Comparison with existing data from γ-ray measurements is given.
