Abstract
Three different kinds of first-row transition metal silicoselenides having CdI2-related structures have been synthesized. Vanadium and chromium form VSiSe3 and Cr1+xSiSe3 which are similar to MPSe3 crystallizing in a hexagonal structure. Manganese forms Mn3/2SiSe3 which is isostructural with Mn3/2SiTe3. With Fe, Co and Ni, a new type of silicoselenide of the formula MSi2Se4 (M = Fe, Co or Ni) is obtained. These solids crystallize in the CdI2/Cr3S4 structure where M atoms and Si---Si pairs occupy the cation positions.
