Abstract
Structural aspects, IR spectra, electrical transport and magnetic properties of Ln2MoO5 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho and Y) oxides are reported. The heavier lanthanide compounds in the series, formed in a metastable fluorite structure at lower temperatures, undergo irreversible transformation to a more stable monoclinic (Yb2ReO5) structure at higher temperatures. All the Ln2MoO5 phases are n-type semiconductors with no significant contribution from Mo4+ to the magnetic susceptibility.
