Abstract

Gamma-ray bursts are believed to be the most luminous objects in the Universe. Recently Singh has claimed that quantum particle creation around a naked singularity can provide the required energy in a straight-forward way. It is argued that all known examples of naked singularity in fluid collapse are based on physically inconsistent assumptions and have no astrophysical significance. Further, naked singularities cannot provide the required amount of energy.
