Abstract
The Neogene has been one of the most crucial periods of the geological history, characterized by the major reorganization of land and sea, evolution of mountain chains and development of present day ocean and atmospheric circulations. In the context of the Indian subcontinent, the Neogene period has witnessed final closure of Tethys associated with the major Himalayan uplift; and the evolution of the Bengal Fan and the Andaman Sea.
