Abstract
The utility of remote sensing data and GIS techniques for mapping of sediment sources in a mountainous terrain has been demonstrated. The major factors controlling sediment production, considered in the present study, are slope, lithology, lineament density, landforms, vegetation, and drainage density. The information extracted from different sources have been analyzed in a GIS environment using multi-criteria decision-making technique, Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). The study has provided an understanding of the geomorphological and geological processes of sediment production and has implications for engineering projects in the region.
