Abstract

We show how the pump-induced sharp holes in homogeneously or inhomogeneously broadened absorption line shapes can be used for the production of ultra-slow light. We present a detailed discussion of underlying concepts and results on the pump power dependences of the group index and the bandwidth-delay product. Further, we discuss experimental results, which are in agreement with theoretical predictions.
