Abstract
A novel approach to the synthesis of dipyridinyls (3a,b, 5a,b, 6c,d) and terpyridinyls (6a,b, 7a,b) with phenyl and 1,3-terphenyl spacers is delineated by base induced ring transformation reactions of 6-pyridyl-3-carbomethoxy-4-methylthio-2H-pyran-2-ones.
