Abstract
This paper describes a novel bridgeless converter topology based on ̈cuk converter for implementing the pulse charging algorithm for fast charging of the battery, so as to make the Electric Vehicle compete with a conventional IC engine based vehicle. The notable features of this topology are single stage power conversion, high efficiency, compactness and less weight. The control strategy is also simple to implement since the input current follows the input voltage in discontinuous conduction mode in a ̈cuk topology. Hence current shaping loop is not required. All this features make the proposed converter suitable for ON-board battery charging application. Simulations and experimental results are presented to validate the proposed topology. Small signal modelling has been performed and used for close loop control of the system. Complete design procedure is also included.
