Abstract

Two coordination compounds namely [{(H2O)2(NO3)4(MeOH)2Cd2(μ-L1)2}] 1 and [{(H2O)2Cd(μ-SO4)(μ-L1)}]n2 have been isolated by reacting a bis-pyridyl-bis-amide ligand namely N,N′-bis-(3-pyridyl)isophthalamide L1 with Cd(NO3)2 and CdSO4, respectively. Single crystals of both 1 and 2 were determined. It was revealed from the X-ray analyses that conformation dependent ligating topology of L1 and different coordination modes of the counter anions (nitrate and sulfate) are responsible for the formation of discrete metallo-macrocycle (compound 1) and 2D corrugated sheet (compound 2).
