Abstract

Ricinine, a principal alkaloid isolated from the castor-cake, has been studied for its antithyroid activity. Its effect on goiter production and thyroid hormonogenesis has been compared with the known goitrogen, propylthiouracil. The data presented herein reveal that ricinine is a potent goitrogen.
