Abstract
This paper presents a SPV (Solar Photovoltaic)-DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) grid tied system controlled using a unity zone variable forgetting factor RLS (Recursive Least Square) algorithm along with P & O (Perturb and Observe) maximum power point tracking method. The proposed SPV grid tied system operates in two modes: Mode-1, the SPV-DSTATCOM mode which comes into operation during sunshine, in which the SPV-DSTATCOM performs the DSTATCOM operation improving power quality and is also capable of transferring power to the load and the grid. However, during the night or cloudy sky, the system operates in Mode-2 i.e. the DSTATCOM mode, in which only the power quality is improved which is deteriorated by connected loads. Thus, the proposed system is capable to meet peak power demand when the solar energy is available. However, it improves the system power quality during day and night. The experimental validation is carried out on a developed prototype in the laboratory under varying modes.
