Abstract
In this paper various transformer supported three-phase three-wire (3p3w) unified power quality conditioners (UPQCs) topologies are presented for the realization of four-wire (4w) distribution system along with power quality improvement capabilities. In these topologies of UPQCs, the neutral terminal of the series active power filter (SER APF) inserting transformer with utility is considered as the fourth wire for the realization of the 4W distribution system. In addition to this, the performance of each proposed topology of UPQC is also evaluated for power quality (PQ) improvements such as current harmonics compensation, reactive power compensation, load balancing and voltage harmonic compensation. For the control of each proposed UPQC topology, a control strategy based on unit vector template generation (UVTG) is used. Moreover, in a transformer supported 3p3w UPQC topology, no extra control is required for the compensation of neutral current; hence numbers of required current sensors are reduced. Performances of the proposed topologies of UPQCs are validated through comprehensive simulations study using MATLAB software.
