Abstract
This paper presents various control strategies and operating principle of a buck PFC converter for feeding a PMBLDCMD (Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor Drive) in various modes of operation. Detailed design, modeling and simulation of a buck PFC converter fed PMBLDCMD are carried out for wide rang of speed control with PWM current control of the motor. A buck PFC converter is operated with the current multiplier control and voltage follower control schemes for the operation of PMBLDCMD under wide range speed control. Simulated performance of the PMBLDCMD is analyzed for various power quality indices under dynamic and steady state conditions. The obtained results demonstrate effectiveness of single stage PFC controller with PWM current control of PFC converter as well as motor winding currents in the wide range of speed control and input AC voltage.
