Abstract
This paper presents the performance comparison of classical PID controller, nonlinear sliding mode controller and modern fuzzy logic controller as applied to the speed control of switched reluctance motor (SRM). Experimental magnetization and static torque data are used for realistic simulation of drive performance. Different control strategies and their effect on dynamic performance of SRM drive system are illustrated in terms of starting and speed reversal time, steady state error in speed, overshoot, load bearing capability, and speed and torque ripple.
