Abstract
This paper presents a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive with power factor correction. Here SRM drive up to 1 kW rating fed with midpoint converter is considered. As per the requirement buck boost converter is modified to obtain two equal DC output voltages to feed mid-point converter. The speed control of proposed drive is obtained by regulated DC link voltage. Here a closed loop control based on voltage mode control is designed to obtain the reference DC link voltage. The high frequency inductors of buck boost converter are design to operate in discontinuous conduction mode, to reduce system size. The supply current THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) due to peaky nature of current in conventional configuration is brought down below 5% as per IEC 6100-3-2 standard.
