Abstract
This paper presents a self-sustained GEDPGS (Green Energy Driven Power Generating Station) to feed telecommunication tower. The proposed power plant employs a SCIG (Squirrel Cage Induction Generator) coupled with wind turbine to cater the needs of electricity at remote telecommunication tower. A VFC (Voltage and Frequency Controller) is used for GEDPGS to regulate voltage and frequency of generated power and to feed diversified loads. A three-leg self-commutated switches based VSC (Voltage Source Converter) is used for the VFC. A three-phase transformer connected in star-delta configuration is used in-between a VSC and the common point of coupling (CPC) to reduce the rating of VSC. The control algorithm is realized using a digital signal processor. Test results demonstrate the additional capabilities of VFC as a load leveler, a load balancer, a harmonic eliminator and a neutral current compensator.
