Abstract
In this paper, an autonomous wind energy conversion system (WECS) is proposed using a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The voltage and frequency (VF) of the stand alone WECS is controlled using a voltage source converter (VSC) with a battery energy storage system (BESS) at its dc link. A Scott-connected transformer is proposed for the neutral current compensation of the three-phase four-wire distribution system. The VF controller consists of IGBTs (insulated gate bipolar transistors) based voltage source converter (VSC). The VF controller injects/ absorbs both active and reactive powers and hence controls frequency and voltage of the system. It also acts as a harmonic compensator and load balancer. The proposed WECS along with its VF controller are modelled and simulated using MATLAB with its Simulink and power system block set (PSB) tool boxes.
