Abstract
The initiation and subsequent development of laticifers were studied in callus tissues of Calotropis gigantea grown on MS (Murashige and Skoog) medium supplemented with 1 mg l−1 IAA. Laticifer development was related to the age of the culture and could be preserved by repeated subculturing on similar medium with IAA. Our previous work had established that cardenolide biosynthesis was related to rhizogenesis and here we report the culture system of laticifer, long term preservation and differentiation of this hydrocarbon producing energy plant.
