Abstract
The transient and steady-state behaviour of a 3-phase cycloconverter fed induction motor, is analysed for its variable frequency operation. Different criteria are considered to select the voltage levels and frequency of cycloconverter output for optimum performance of the motor at specified torque and speed A dynamic model is developed to simulate the variable frequency response of the motor fed from cycloconverter output alongwith sinusoidal source. The developed model is capable to include the effect of nonsinueoida1 input excitation and saturation in the magnetic circuit of the cage motor. Two axis d-q variables approach in synchronously rotating reference frame, is employed to develop the mathematical model A computer algorithm is developed using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method to simulate the performance of the motor- The exhaustive simulated results for a 3 hp motor are presented and discussed in detail.
