Abstract
The steady state performance of a single-phase squirrel cage induction machine operating as self excited generator is analysed. The capacitor banks are considered for its reactive power requirements, to self excite and to maintain desired voltage at generator terminals for different loads. An analytical technique, which uses equivalent circuit and the Newton-Raphson method is employed to compute the capacitance and generated frequency for a desired voltage at given speed and load. Single variable optimization technique is used alongwith above mentioned method to achieve optimum terminal voltage for maximum output power of generator at specified current and speed. Test results alongwith computed ones on a laboratory size machine are presented for various terminal voltages at different loads and speeds.
