Abstract
Simple and inexpensive methods described for measuring precisely the crystal density, the inter- and intracrystalline pore volumes and the sorption capacity of the ZSM-5 zeolite and also for studying the single component diffusion of very slow diffusing liquids in the zeolite. The sorption capacity of H-ZSM-5 (Si/Al = 38) for the different sorbates was found to be in the following order: methanol >> n-hexane ≈ benzene > p-xylene >m-xylene ≈ o-xylene > mesitylene. The values of diffusion coefficients for o-xylene, m-xylene and mesitylene at 303 K were found to be 24.0 × 10-15, 16.1 × 10-15 and 0.9 × 10-15 cm2 s-1, respectively.
