Abstract

The paper deals with some fragmentary organic remains that were found associated with the bauxite deposits of Naredi in the region of Kutch, Western India. These remains are in the form of hard, minute gibbsitised tubes that bear close resemblance to rolled and transported echinoderm spines. SEM studies confirm the transformation of the original skeletal calcite matrix to gibbsite. This transformation, according to the authors, indicates a synsedimentary depositional environment when the bauxite was being formed.
