Abstract

The study of domestic accidents covering 3,300 families of Central Government employees of Allahabad revealed that the accident rate was 29 per thousand person years. The age 1-4 years was most vulnerable with a rate of 49 per thousand person years Falls (38.9 per cent) headed the list of causes followed by burns (24.3 per cent) and hit by/against (22.4 per cent). The most frequent sites of accidents were bed/living room and kitchen The interaction of host, agent and environment revealed marked similarity with the type of functions performed at a particular age and at a particular place The average period of retarded activity per accident was 2.5 days and per thousand person years of exposure was 75 days
