Abstract

In this review, we briefly discuss the concept of optical solitons by considering important linear and nonlinear optical effects like group velocity dispersion, higher order dispersion, Kerr nonlinearity, nonlinear dispersion, simulated inclastic scattering, briefringence, self-induced Transparency and various inhomogeneous effects in fibres. After disussing some of these effects, we discuss the derivation of pulse envelope equation and the different exact optical soliton possessing models and the effect of gain (loss) is investigated through numerical methods. Finally, we discuss the different soliton models in nonlinear couplers.
