Abstract

Magnetic specific heat anomalies have probed in the Sm1-xGdxAl2 (x=0.01,0.02 and 0.03) alloys showing magnetic compensation in nominal zero/low field cooled magnetization, at the respective compensation temperatures (Tcomp) below the magnetic ordering tempature. The data was collected across Tcomp in applied magnetic fields up to 9T. Field induced heat capacity anomalies were seen for samples with x=0.01 and 0.02 but not for x=0.03, for the fields employed. The possibility of a field induced phase transition across ∼Tcomp is discussed.
