Abstract

The notion of competition between orbital and apin contributions to the net magnetization has been explored in Sm1-xGdxAl2 for 0.01≤x≤. Upto x=0.03, the magnetic compensation phenomenon, with cross over in sign of magnetization values at low fields and the turnaround in the magnetization curve at high fields, can be easily noted. However, at x=0.04, the compensation appears to happen only with the aid of external field (H>2Y).
