Abstract

In the present treatment of the problem of IR radiative transfer and emergent far-IR flux from a homogeneous cylindrical dust cloud having two sources on its axis, the dust temperature is calculated by means of an iterative method. The expected flux distributions at 50 and 100 microns are presented for several combinations of dust density and relative source luminosities. The observed flux distributions of W3 are compared with the calculation results obtained; the case of observed 50-micron contours and the flux distribution calculated for the larger dust density indicates that calculation results drop off too steeply in the outer regions.
