Abstract

Rifampicin at various dose levels was injected intraperitoneally (ip) into Swiss Albino male mice for a period of one week. The S9 fraction prepared from tbe animals given 80 mg (per kg body weight) induced a significant number of revertants in tbe TA9S strain of Salmonella typhimurium. Rifampicin treatment of mice was also found to induce the activity of hepatic aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase. Isoniazid (INH) added in vitro at therapeutic concentration (15/ig/plate) was not mutagenic either to TA98 or TA100 strain of S. typhimurium in the presence of rifampicin induced Sf fraction.
