Abstract

The first diazole complexes of rhenium have been isolated and characterized in the form of the oxo and imido species of general type [ReOCl3(L)] and [Re(NPh)Cl3(L)] where L is 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole or 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)-l,3,4-thiadiazole. Structure determination has revealed meridional geometry, oxo/imido triple bonding and aromatic lattice interactions. The chelates display a relatively weak ligand field band in the visible region and a quasireversible ReVI/ReV cyclic voltammetric response.
