Abstract

Data from a 19.35 GHz microwave radiometer onboard the Indian satellite "BHASKARA" have been analysed to determine a correlation between brightness temperature and ocean surface wind speed near nadir angles of observation. A regression analysis has been performed between the changes in brightness temperatures and a limited amount of surface wind data obtained during Monex-79 in the light of the theory proposed by Stogryn and observations made by others. The correlation obtained in the present study is discussed in relation to the observations made by others using multifrequency microwave radiometers.
