Abstract

Bhilawanol, isolated by previous authors [ J. Indian chem. Soc, 3 (1931), 517] from S. anacardium Linn, is shown to be a mixture of phenolic compounds consisting mainly of 1,2-di-hydroxy-3-(pentadecenyl-8')-benzene (Va) and l,2-dihydroxy-3-(pentadecadienyl-8',11')-benzene (VIIa). These results are also at variance with those reported by Rao and Row [Curr. Sci., 39 (1970), 207].
