Abstract

Here we report a new and potentially important Deccan Intertrappean ossiferous locality in Mandsaur District, Madhya Pradesh. The recovered fauna comprises fishes (isolated teeth and scales of holosteans and selachians), turtles (shell fragments and vertebrae), crocodiles (teeth and scutes) and unidentified archosaurian (dinosaurian/crocodilian) coprolites. Significantly, the assemblage includes an age diagnostic (Maastrichtian) myliobatid Igdabatis indicus and is generally similar to faunas known previously from other infra- and inter-trappean localities. Detailed prospecting in this new locality may be rewarding.
