Abstract

The usefulness of perturbation arrows in describing anomalous induced currents is investigated by analysing data from a magnetometer array in northwest India where a variety of conductors are known to exist. The quadrature part of the vectorially combined perturbation arrows presents a stable pattern in the period range of 40-90 min. The picture of anomalous current emerging from these arrows is consistent with that indicated by real induction arrows and helps to isolate the effect associated with closely located conductors. Good agreement noticed between maps of simulated anomalous fields, obtained by the application of hypothetical event analysis technique, and Fourier transform parameters brings the transfer function and Fourier transform mapping techniques into a mutually consistent picture.
