Abstract
We compute the J/ψ production in leading order of QCD perturbation theory in the central region of pp and AA collisions at CERN (√s=20 GeV/N) energy. The parton distribution functions which we use for nuclei take the EMC effect into account, albeit in a model-dependent way. We find a large suppression of J/ψ in O16-U collisions at √s=20 GeV/N relative to pp collisions depending on the model.
