Abstract

We examine the consequences of Berry's phase for the dynamics of Josephson junctions and junction arrays in which moving vortices are present. For both a large annular Josephson junction and a 2D junction array, Berry's phase produces a new current drive in the superconducting phase dynamics of these weak link systems. This Berry phase effect is shown to be physically inequivalent to a known effect in junction arrays associated with the Aharonov-Casher phase.
