Abstract

Stratigraphic, granulometric and Infra-Red Stimulated Luminescence dating studies on a 7-m high transverse dune in the Thar Desert provide evidence of high variability in dune accretion and mobility rates during the last 2000 years. Human activity during recent years has increased dune mobility beyond the rates seen under natural situations.
