Abstract

Finding the depth to the basement rock is an important feature in exploration geophysics. There are number of ways to find the depth to the basement. In this paper the depth to the top of the step model is estimated by inverting the synthetic magnetic anomalies for a unit step model using Backus Gilbert Technique of Inversion. The results of inversion were interesting. The effect of variation of depth to the top of the step model was studied. An exercise was carried out to study if any change occurred in inverted heights when step heights were changed in calculating the anomaly. Error analysis was done explicity and studied. All these were done with special reference to airborne survey and land surveys.
